It was a LONG way home for Ziggy

Ziggy (formerly Rock) found himself at Dallas Animal Services last Fall.  After 45 days, his time was up-he needed to be saved quickly.   Laurie, who lives in Montana, saw his picture online and asked about long-distance rescue aid.  Paws in the City was recommended because we are willing to facilitate out of state adoptions.

Laurie got in touch with Becky at Paws in the City.  We quickly realized Laurie was a committed adopter.  The big question - was Ziggy going to be OK with cats?  We temperament tested him twice to be sure.  He passed!  So we rescued Rock and brought him to a boarding facility, Wuf Pet Resort in Irving, until transportation could be figured out. Wuf was nice enough to give Rock free boarding too.

Transport was tricky because there was no direct flight into Montana or ground transport available.  Laurie's friend, Celeste, who lives in Ft. Collins offered to let Rock stay with her until Laurie could get him.  So after a week, Ziggy took off in a plane for Denver. Laurie brought Ziggy home to Montana 3 weeks later.

Laurie reported, "He was very happy and loved it at Celeste's home. When I got him home to Montana, he was stressed and miserable. He was frighteningly obsessed with the cats.  It was strange because he lived with rabbits in Ft. Collins.  He was also aggressive toward the horses, and on the second day he bit one in the face. I felt he was much happier with Celeste, and the animals I have were not safe. After many tears I spoke with Celeste and she jumped at the chance to take Ziggy back. I drove him back to Colorado. Celeste and her husband are marathon runners and bring Ziggy on their training runs. He is adored and he adores them.  In the meantime I took in a young pup from a shelter closer by so that I could make sure my animals would be okay. So in a roundabout way 2 dogs were saved through this ordeal. I was so blown away by Becky and Paws in the City. Thanks to you, 2 dogs now have loving homes. What Paws in the City does is so amazing!"

And Laurie reminds Celeste, "Your willingness to help me and a dog you'd never met is what got you a beautiful running mate.  Ziggy is happily training for a marathon. Celeste and her friends have a "black and white" running club. The women dress in black and white to match their dogs. Ziggy is comfortably running 14 miles at a time.....he looks fantastic. He is so happy! Paws in the City and Celeste, you are both awesome, and Ziggy is the winner!!!"  What a great life he has now!
